DRIVING DIRECTIONS TO PIHA: from Auckland City & Airport

Auckland City to Piha: (38km approx 45 mins)

The most straightforward way to drive is via Titirangi Village and the Scenic Drive. It is an enjoyable 45min drive from Central Auckland through the bushclad Waitakere ranges. Don't miss the Arataki Visitor Centre on the way out as it is well worth a visit.

There is no petrol at Piha, so remember to fill up before heading out, and there are also no ATM's (cash machines) or Supermarkets.

From the top of Hobson St in the City drive onto the North-Western Motorway (Hwy 16). Exit at the Waterview/Great Nth Rd off-ramp onto Hwy 11. Just follow Gt Nth Rd onto Hwy 19 past Avondale and towards New Lynn (Gt Nth Rd actually changes to Ash St and to Rata St). At the major intersection meeting Gt Nth Rd go straight ahead onto Titirangi Rd (Hwy 24) through to Titirangi Village. From the roundabout through here, follow Scenic drive (Hwy 24) approx 15km until Piha Road- IMPORTANT TURN, Veer left here and follow Piha Rd until at the intersection at the bottom of the hill at Piha Turn Right here onto Glenesk Road the very first road on your right. Piha Beachstay is down here 500m on your left, number 38 Glenesk Rd.

Auckland International & Domestic Airport to Piha: (48km approx 60mins)

When leaving the Airport on George Bolt Memorial Drive (Hwy 20A), access the South-Western motorway (Hwy 20). Follow this until it ends at Hillsborough Rd (hwy 15) then turn left here. Follow Hwy 15 all the way to meet Titirangi Rd (Hwy 24) and turn left here up to Titirangi Village. From the roundabout through here, follow Scenic drive (Hwy 24) approx 15km until Piha Road- IMPORTANT TURN, Veer left here and follow Piha Rd until at the intersection at the bottom of the hill at Piha Turn Right here onto Glenesk Road the very first road on your right. Piha Beachstay is down here 500m on your left, number 38 Glenesk Rd.

There are several alternative ways to drive that may be shorter/faster; these directions are recommended routes as they are fairly simple to follow and are an enjoyable drive.

1. PIHA SURF SHUTTLE:
Available direct to our door, the Piha Surf Shuttle operates daily services to the City and Airport. Bookings essential.

Auckland City to Piha: Piha Surf Shuttle will provide transport for $30 one way or $50 for same day return.

Auckland International Airport to Piha: $70 for the first person and $10 for each extra person up to a maximum of 11.One days notice is required.

2. TAXIS:

Auckland City to Piha:
Expect to pay about $70- $90 for up to 4 people.
Auckland International Airport to Piha:
Expect to pay about $80-$100 for up to 4 people.

Ask about off-peak/peak hour times and rates.
'Peak hour' differs between companies.

3. TAXI/TRAIN COMBO:
You can use a taxi or a combination of train and taxi...
Expect to pay about $45 - $60 for up to 4 people in a taxi from Henderson to Piha.
First catch a Western Route train to Henderson station.Trains depart Britomart Transport Centre (corner of Queen and Custom Streets) between 6.15am and 8.15pm and run every 30mins at peak hours on Weekdays, otherwise hourly. The journey will take about 40mins and cost $3.80. Western Cabs are on the taxi rank at the station.

4. PUBLIC TRANSPORT:
